Purpose: Gently brush the surface of knitwear using wire brushes or nylon brushes.
Effects:
Produce fine fluff: Lift the fiber ends to form a layer of uniform, soft short pile (peach skin effect), which greatly enhances the fabric’s plush handfeel, warmth retention and hazy appearance.
Surface cleaning: Remove lint and dust generated during weaving and transportation.
Styling finish: Create a subtle vintage, worn-in soft texture.
2. Milling/Twisting/Fulling – 3D Plumping Treatment (Core Process)
Purpose: Subject garments to rotation, kneading and pressing via mechanical devices in a humid, hot steam environment.
Effects:
Highlight cable patterns: Fully unfold the 3D embossed patterns (e.g., cable knits, Aran knits) on sweaters, making them plump, distinct and sculptural.
Overall plumping: Relax the fabric’s loop structure, resulting in a fluffy, lightweight and elastic garment with an extremely soft handfeel.
Preshrinking & setting: Stabilize garment dimensions and prevent future shrinkage.
3. Pressing/Ironing – Smoothing & Final Setting
Purpose: Apply heat and pressure to specific areas of garments using steam-equipped press plates or ironing heads.
Effects:
Smooth out contours: Iron and define crisp lines on structured areas such as shoulder seams, armholes, necklines and hems.
Local setting: Fix the garment shape for a neat, tailored finished look.
Wrinkle removal: Eliminate minor creases caused during the milling and brushing processes.
